GDIT is seeking a full time Nutritional Analytical Chemist to support analytical chemistry services for our client in Atlanta GA. The ideal candidate will be familiar with contemporary analytical chemistry methods and instrumentation including but not limited to AA, FTIR, UV, NMR, HPLC, GC MS/MS, LC MS/MS, GC/MS, and ICP/MS, ICP-DRC/MS and their application to the detection of nutritional biomarkers (e.g. vitamins, fatty acids, phytoestrogens, aflotoxins) as indicators of human health. The incumbent will be a player coach contributing to ongoing analyses, method development and project execution as well as oversee day to day activities of a small team comprised of other chemists and laboratory technicians. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of compliance with CLIA, ISO, ACAP, and other industry standards and best practices and experience working in a regulated laboratory environment.
Conduct chemical analysis of human samples for clinical markers of disease or exposure to environmental contaminants affecting human health using contemporary analytical methods and instruments including but not limited to AA, FTIR, UV, NMR, HPLC, GC MS/MS, LC MS/MS, GC/MS, GC/MS headspace, ICP/MS, and ICP-DRC/MS
Review raw analytical data to ensure instrumentation is operating within spec
Review, approve and report analyses results by approved methods and channels in a timely manner
Develop new and update existing methods as required performing validation studies per standard approaches.
Troubleshoot and perform routine instrumentation maintenance as required
Provide for QA/QC method development
Perform sample prep, sample handling, and reporting as required
Maintain up to date logs for instrument, sample, QC and other records as required
Perform analyses in compliance with approved methods and procedures
Adhere to CLIA and ISO practices as well as OSHA and organizational safety requirements
Assist and direct other laboratory staff including chemists and lab technicians
Train staff on existing and new instrumentation and methods.
Participate in training of partner laboratories in compliant execution of documented methods
Participate in proficiency testing programs including in house and with partner laboratories
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or other physical sciences and 5+ years’ experience
3+ years’ experience clinical analytical chemistry work experience, preferably including work in a CLIA or ISO certified environment
Knowledge of laboratory and safety regulations including CLIA, ISO, and/or OSHA standards
Strong written and spoken communication skills
Ability to work successfully as part of a team with strong interpersonal skills
Well-organized and detail oriented
Able to multitask and operate effectively within a diverse and dynamic work environment
Experience with LIMS systems and their use in for workflow support and records management in analytical laboratories
Experience with statistics software packages (e.g., SAS)
Masters +2 years experience or PhD in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or other physical sciences (equivalent in experience may be substituted)
Familiarity with the policies and protocols of ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 13485, ISO/IEC 15189 and ISO/IEC 17025 and the regulatory requirements of CLIA (42 CFR 493), Good Laboratory Practices (21 CFR 58) and Quality System Regulation (21 CFR 820)
Active certification by one or more recognized laboratory professional organizations such as ASCP or CAP
