GDIT is currently seeking a Lead Network Architect in Bethesda, Maryland to join our team managing and operating state-of-the art network and telecommunications infrastructures 24x7x365 for the National Institute of Health (NIH). The team provides high-speed network access (NIH), network security, telecommunications, wireless, etc. for NIH’s scientific and administrative communities. The team supports a variety of customers including the NIH Office of the Director, 27 ICs, DHHS Operating Divisions (OPDIVs), and other external customers.
In this role you will serve as the Lead Architect supporting high-speed, highly available network infrastructures (backbone, facilities network, trusted internet connection, etc.) and number of Local Area Networks (LAN) supporting NIH’s Office of Director and 27 Institutes/Centers.
Task and responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to the following:
Serve within team’s infrastructure engineering group, leading tactical operations and providing strategic direction.
Review, propose, and execute solutions to meet contract objectives to include:
Monitoring performance, and fine-tuning configurations as required to maintain optimum performance.
Suggest, develop, test innovative technologies and architectures and develop hardware and configuration standards using the Change Management System.
Introduce new architectures and technologies into the production network with an eye toward ensuring that the backbone remains technologically current and operationally efficient.
Work with security to review and propose solutions for Audit findings and provide remediation guidance or modern technologies.
Review new service requests, propose solutions, draft customer responses, and execute against solution.
Must be able to effectively communicate with executive sponsors, project managers, engineers, and operations personnel with high degree of customer service.
Review impacts of overall solutions and work with program teams to formulate design plans that factors technology investments and risks while providing value to the company by improving business processes and eliminating unnecessary complexities.
Review vendor proposals to identify which promises the most value and the best return on investment and how best to integrate into existing environment.
Transitions technical requirements into a working solution. Leads the design phase of the project and participates in all remaining phases to verify that the design is installed, configured and documented following best practices.
Reviews, understands, and updates technical diagrams and documentation.
Assists the project management team recognize and mitigate any risks to on-going projects.
Involved in training and mentoring all levels of staff and ensures solutions supported are maintained once deployed.
To qualify, you must meet these basic qualifications:
BS or the equivalent and 14 years related experience or a MS and 12 years related experience
Requires a minimum of 15 years of experience in service provider networking
Demonstrated experience serving in an architecture capacity
CCIE: having passed both the written and practical exams in at least one of the following areas of specialization: Service Provider, Routing & Switching, Data Center, Security or Wireless (will be considered in lieu of experience)
Ability to obtain Level 6 Public Trust Clearance
It would be great if you also had:
Prefer degree in field of Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related discipline.
