General Dynamics Information Technology Principal Engineer, Field in Chantilly, Virginia
Provides technical advice and guidance on installation, adaptation, configuration and/or enhancement of company technical products, programs and systems. The successful candidate will deploy, install, and maintain servers, routers, edges, switches, telecommunications systems, UPS Systems, and desktop PC hardware in support of customer operations. The candidate is also responsible for procedural input into the planning, preparation, and execution of all projects. He/She is responsible for the technical direction, leadership, and training of less experienced staff. Ensures that systems are implemented in a tight time frame, and within budget.
Provides technical advice and guidance on installation, adaptation, configuration and/or enhancement of company technical products, programs and systems.
Evaluates data centers for the installation of equipment.
Installs applicable equipment (with racks if needed).
Performs onsite testing of equipment and coordinates with other engineers.
Installs and connects applicable cables.
Coordinates pick-up and delivery of equipment.
Troubleshoots network connectivity issues.
Provides expertise for resolving technical problems.
Modifies products, programs and systems to customer requirements.
Serves as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects.
Provides end-user training.
Performs various tests and documents results.
Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced engineers and technicians, and may have supervisory responsibilities.
May serve as technical team or task lead.
Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
Participates in special projects as required.
Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or a related field.
8-10 years of related engineering experience.
Experience in IP Related Services : TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, PPP, and SIP.
Experience installing and maintaining Cisco routers and switches.
Experience with commercial PBX and associated telephones, VOIP/data telephony.
Experience with UPS systems and AC/DC power systems to include installations/connection.
Working knowledge of CAT 5 and CAT 6 cable, connectors, and demonstrated capability of fabricating required equipment.
Experience working with SONET rings and associated hardware.
Experience using Remedy, VISIO, and MS Office.
