Position Summary Description:

SysOps or System Adminstrator will assist in the Development and Administration of a Platform as a Service system configuration using the latest DevOps integrated platform. The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective orchestration, provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure on premise and cloud. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system virtualization/hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and Partners.

This individual will assist infrastructure teams with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases of our Platform as a Service stack. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions.

This individual is accountable for the following systems: Linux and Windows systems that support Legacy transformation into PaaS, Containerization, and Microservices deployment; Linux, Windows and Application systems that support PaaS; Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Engineering of PaaS related solutions for various project and operational needs.

  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.

  • Install and configure systems such as supports Cloud and On-premise infrastructure applications.

  • Develop and maintain orchestration, installation and configuration procedures.

  • Contribute to and maintain system standards including best industry and organizational practices.

  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

  • Perform daily system monitoring of PaaS deployments, verifying the integrity and availability of all virtual/hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.

  • Update Risk Management Framework software.

  • Automate and monitor daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.

  • Monitor regular file archival and purge as necessary.

  • Create, change, and delete PaaS user accounts per request.

  • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.

  • Repair and recover from server or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted dependencies.

  • Maintain orchestrated OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.

  • Upgrade and configure system software that supports infrastructure applications using orchestration demanded by operational needs.

  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures with PaaS orchestration.

  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.

  • Maintain cloud and on premise environments.

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.

Customer Preference:

  • BS in Computer Science degree

Qualifications

8-10 years of related systems engineering experience.

Customer Preference:

  • 4 to 10 years that includes On-premise or Cloud Systems Administration in a DevOps engineering environment.

  • 4 years or more of programming experience with JavaScript, Java, C, C++, Python or other programming languages using an IDE

  • Experience on Linux, Unix and Windows environments including shell scripting

  • Experience with Agile Development

  • Experience of development with databases including SQL

  • Experience with Build tools using Maven, Ant, Nexus

  • Experience with Git, SVN, and other configuration management tools

  • Experience with Cloud environments like AWS, Microsoft Azure, or similar.

  • Knowledge of Static code analysis using tools similar to HP Web Inspect, HP Fortify, SonarQube, etc.

  • Knowledge of building web applications with Docker, Angular, Node.js, HTML, Bootstrap, Puppet, Ansible and similar frameworks and orchestration tools.

  • Knowledge of HTTPS, SSL, Certificates etc.

  • Knowledge of web services, REST, JSON, YAML and XML

  • Ability to provide innovative approaches that yield simple, practical solutions, modularity

  • Knowledge of networking concepts, principles, and technologies

  • Proficient with office, spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications

  • Ability to cope under high demand, handle multiple priorities, projects and tasks, and meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with the team and the customer

  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to explain technical concepts to end users, create documents and presentation and be able to effectively communicate ideas

  • Willingness, desire and sharp aptitude to learn new technologies and be open to work on challenging assignment as they evolve
