General Dynamics Information Technology Technician, Mechanical in Pawcatuck, Connecticut

Job Description

Performs technical tasks toward the development or testing of machinery and equipment.

  1. Performs routine assembly of fabricated components using various methods. Installing threaded fasteners, press in fasteners and some specialized types of fastening systems.

  2. Sets up and operates various types of fabrication equipment. The ability to operate various power hand tools, drills, grinders, etc.

  3. Ability to train other employees in the assembly area pertaining to correct installation procedures and methods.

  4. Assemble components using detailed blueprints using basic hand tools. Calculate dimensions when required using basic measuring devices, calipers, scales, etc.

  5. Builds experimental apparatus, instrumentation or systems of moderate complexity.

  6. Constructs components or sub-assemblies of experimental apparatus or prototype models.

  7. Records test procedures and results, performs routine analysis and calculations; and makes recommendations for changes in equipment, product or test methods.

  8. Participates in special projects as required. Willingness to cross train in other areas of the shop.


Associates Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training or work experience.


1-3 years of related experience fabricating, maintaining and repairing mechanical components.

Mechanical blueprint reading; a strong mechanical ability is a plus.

Willing to work second shift.

Overtime may be required.

Ability to obtain a security clearance.
