General Dynamics Information Technology Bioanalytical Research Scientist in Silver Spring, Maryland
General Dynamics Health Solutions is seeking an experienced Bioanalytical Research Scientist in support of the mission of the Experimental Therapeutics (ET) Branch of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). The mission of the Branch is to discover and develop new pharmaceutical agents to protect military members from death, disease, and injury. The Branch is the nation’s primary developer of new drugs to prevent and/or treat malaria and leishmaniasis. This position will support the Department of Drug Development in its mission to plan, coordinate, and execute basic and advanced research into the design, synthesis and development of novel chemical entities to inhibit, combat or otherwise treat specific biological threats to the warfighter. As part of this mission, the department also performs in vitro and in vivo preclinical studies on the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicology of candidate antiparasitic and antibacterial drugs.
Responsibilities of this position include:
Conduct metabolite identification and degradation studies using high resolution Mass Spectrometers.
Conduct non-standard studies utilizing MALDI, REIMS, and other ionization techniques, as required based on project needs.
Assist in the development, SOP preparation, and training of junior lab members for new assays as requested.
Assist in the preparation of presentations and manuscripts based on original research conducted in the laboratory, and present findings at scientific meetings.
Prepare biological samples for analysis using methods to include tissue homogenization, blood spot filter puncture, and solvent extraction.
Assist in the performance of standard laboratory assays as requested, in accordance with priorities determined by lab management.
Assist in chemical and supply inventories and laboratory organization as requested.
Operate TECAN robotic and LC-UV-MS systems, and analyze results.
Maintain appropriate data records and QC data for incorporation into LIMs database.
Work will be performed in a laboratory and office environment and may require occasional evening and weekend work.
Bachelors Degree in a scientific discipline.
2-5 years of related experience in scientific research.
