General Dynamics Information Technology – Federal and Civilian Division is currently looking for a Data Research Associate to join our team to support the Defense Veterans Brain Injury Center contract. This position is based in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) is a part of the U.S. Military Health System (link is external). Specifically, DVBIC is the traumatic brain injury (TBI) operational component of the DHA J-9 for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury. Founded in 1992 by Congress, DVBIC's responsibilities have grown as its network of care and treatment sites has grown.

Job Description:

Data Research Associate is responsible for assisting with the Research Division projects including: Data collection; data entry; organization of data; copyediting; and, creating interactive graphs with Access and Excel data.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist researchers in retrieving information from databases and other data sources, as directed, and shall prepare and provide research and management reports as requested.

  • Assist with the data handling requirements for research study protocols to include source document design, screen testing and approval, and research dataset creation.

  • Assist with the management of the web-based survey tools and other injury surveillance tools.

  • Assisting with data management, to include organizing paper and electronic data and consent forms; auditing paper and electronic filing systems to ensure all files are accounted for; and for merging of databases

  • Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and PowerPoint presentations

  • Assure quality of all data management and support activities

  • Communicates regularly with study team, under direction of project leaders, via email and conference calling as needed

  • Creates, collects, disseminates, maintains appropriate files of study data, and assists with review and completion of study manuals and SOPs.

  • Creates, maintains and updates various internal databases.

  • Develop and create electronic and exportable data collection forms.

  • Develop and update clinical research and consent forms for data collection and electronic data entry.

  • Enter data into databases; verify accuracy of data by checking data entry, and review questionnaire forms for accuracy and completeness.

  • Extracts data from patient medical records; transcribes and resolves data queries in case report forms (hardcopy or electronic); prepares documents, under direction of project leaders; reports statistical analyses and descriptive data from patient's study books to be used in research/clinical investigations/studies reports.

  • Maintains project related documents and electronic files; secures, organizes and documents as required following all federal/ state regulations.

  • Perform quality assurance/quality control reviews necessary to ensure the accuracy and completeness of data (i.e. quality checking data entry).

  • Provides administrative /analytical support to Research offices.

  • Screens consents and/or schedules potential research participants for testing or evaluation. Facilitates follow-up assessment reminders and scheduling.

Education

  • Associates Degree in a related business discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work experience.

Customer Requires:

  • Candidate must have BA/BS degree.

Qualifications

  • 5-8 Years of related administrative experience.

Customer Requires:

  • Research data assistant work in a medical setting preferred , with experience in spreadsheets and databases, with 1-4 years experience.

  • This is junior level position requiring from 3 to 6 years of experience in data entry, preferably in a medical research environment.

  • Requires experience with providing assistance to senior level staff and/or performing functional duties under the oversight of more senior staff personnel.

  • Must be obtain or be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance and pass a background check.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to follow detailed instructions required. Excellent communication, time management, and analytical skills required. Individual must adhere to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy.

  • Minimum Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite is required (Word, Excel, Access)

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Must be proficient with a multitude of Windows-based email and internet computer applications.

  • Physical Capabilities: Physical Capabilities: Must be able to sit and stand for long periods. Must be able to carry light items – up to 25 lbs.

  • The individual will normally work up to 40 hours a week, 0800 to 1630, Monday through Friday (hours may vary). Overtime is not authorized.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and cannot hold a dual citizenship
